DJGBC Authors Spotlight: E.L. James “Fifty Shades Trilogy”

E L James is a former TV executive, wife and mother of two based in West London. Since early childhood she dreamed of writing stories that readers would fall in love with, but put those dreams on hold to focus on her family and her career. She finally plucked up the courage to put pen to paper with her first novel, Fifty Shades of Grey.

When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too—but on his own terms. Shocked yet thrilled by Grey’s singular erotic tastes, Ana hesitates. For all the trappings of success—his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving family—Grey is a man tormented by demons and consumed by the need to control. When the couple embarks on a daring, passionately physical affair, Ana discovers Christian Grey’s secrets and explores her own dark desires.
Erotic, amusing, and deeply moving, the Fifty Shades Trilogy is a tale that will obsess you, possess you, and stay with you forever.

DJBGC Book Review: Author G.G. Linton “Shoes On The Wrong Foot”

About The Book:
Shoes on the wrong foot is a journey in the life of CeCe Copeland, a single mom who while young and ambitious and full of adventure was soon met with the reality in the world of men. CeCe had dreams of being a mover and shaker in the corporate world, she developed a style of leadership that caught the eye of her corporate office and landed her the head of their Public Relations Department. In her personal life, she soon came to realize that although she could stand up to the challenges of her business associates, she lacked that same drive when dealing with the men in her life. In her quest for true love she met Tony, who introduced her to a life of domestic violence and insecurities; she was subjected to some of the most humiliating situations that finally gave her the courage to run away on the eve of their wedding. Her best friend Charmaine introduced her to Devon, the man who would eventually became her husband. Devon was tall and athletic and instantly builds a relationship with her and Craig; she believed that her soul mate had finally arrived. Shortly after their marriage CeCe and Devon had two more sons, Devon Jr. and Ty, but that loving man that she had married started showing a pattern of behavior that both frightened her and cornered her into a position of submission, while struggling with the reality of facing domestic violence once again, gave her the courage to leave him, but more drama awaits. Carl is a generous Business owner who showers her with affections and gifts, but has a dangerous side to him that no one sees coming. CeCe realized that as wonderful as love is, it can be as uncomfortable as “Shoes on the Wrong Foot”.

Book Review
4.0 out of 5 stars “FATAL ATTRACTION”,
This review is from: Amazon.com For Author G.G. Linton “Shoes On the Wrong Foot” (Paperback)

How devastating and questioning for CeCe to have three consecutive relationships with abusive men…Pondering why she consistently attract this type of man. The last relationship almost cost her, her life even though she didn’t ignore the “red flags” like she did with Tony & ex husband,Devon.

A delightful short novel, despite the topic matter for this first time published author. Prefer a more meaty, literary tone/embellishment instead of a basic everyday dialogue style. A full-length feature novel can take CeCe’s quest to the next level.

DJGBC Authors Spotlight: June Miller “Victimized” Buchanan’s Secret

june miller 2June is the published author of, This Game Has No Loyalty, an urban street fiction novel depicting real life on the streets and the love relationships within those parameters.

His love of writing was first discovered in public school where he dazzled teachers with his creative short stories and intriguing poems. His writing was officially acknowledged locally when one of his stories was featured in his class yearbook.

As June reached his teenage years, he abandoned his love of writing for the dangerous life on the streets of Brooklyn. Although he was educated, the excitement of the street life interested him and he quickly took part in petty crimes, which soon elevated into the introduction to the infamous drug trade where he became a major distributor of illegal drugs out of state. During his illicit activities he was apprehended and convicted then later incarcerated. Once released on parole, he reclaimed his spot in the drug trade and continued trafficking illegal drugs, the threat of violating parole a fleeting thought. His youth and inexperience in life fueled his desire for illegal tender without the thought or regret of contributing to the destruction of his community.

As time passed all of his relationships, social, personal and romantic, became strained due to the nature of his business. His life lacked stability despite the illusion of financial comfort. He was responsible for himself so there was never any balance in his life until the birth of his first daughter, who changed the way he viewed life…her life. June decided to make changes in his life and immediately enrolled into college where he rediscovered his love of writing, showcasing his literary abilities that were recognized by his English professors.

While pursuing his degree, tragedy struck and one of his closest friends was brutally murdered. Overcome by anger and revenge he channeled his emotions into something that came to him naturally, he wrote the story. It didn’t heal the wound to his heart but was therapeutic in helping him express feelings no one knew about. The story was buried along with his feelings for 10 years until one day he came across it after coming from a funeral for yet another fallen youth to the same game he had given up. At that moment he decided to write a story, a true to life account of what happens in the streets with hopes of reaching the youth by delivering vivid accounts of the pitfalls of the street life that is not taught to them and at the same time, promote literacy in these communities because it’s the gateway to learning and sparking mental creativity.

June began penning his novel This Game Has No Loyalty and incorporated his own experiences into his writing to produce the “realness” his story needed to capture his audience.

June is also the author of This Game Has No Loyalty II – Hustle for Life and This Game Has No Loyalty III – Love is Pain published by FourShadough Publishing, a book publishing company that is rooted in the promotion of literacy in urban neighborhoods here and abroad.

Jason Buchanan seems like your average growing boy. The only son to Paula Buchanan, a bourgeois and overprotective mother with delusions of grandeur, he is sheltered from the real world by her in an attempt to ensure his success in life. But when tragedy strikes close to home, a secret he has kept hidden for years surfaces. The agonizing and embarrassing truth is Jason has been victimized and bullied for as long as he can remember and is a complete coward. The torment continues but when he meets a stripper named Magic and hears her heart-wrenching story, he is immediately drawn to her because they share a common denominator in being victims. Paula vehemently disapproves of his courtship and tries desperately to warn him of Magic’s intentions, then finds out a dark secret about her. While away in college Jason suffers another brutal beating but this one is the most humiliating of them all. What is the Buchanan’s Secret? Will this heinous act be the breaking point for Jason’s fearful character? And will Paula tell Jason what she found out about Magic or will she allow him to be victimized once again? In the end, will anymore secrets be revealed?

DJGBC Interview: Author Derrick Harper “One Of Us: A Story Of Gods Favor”

1. Where are you from?

I am from southeastern VA. Hampton, Va. Born in Portsmouth, VA

2. Tell us your latest news?

Right now I’m working on my second book.  “why we do what we do: answers to women’s frequent asked questions about men”. The book “one of us” has been out for a little over a month and has over 1,500 copies in the hands of readers from the USA to the UK.

3. When and why did you  begin writing?

I actually began writing in the summer of 2011. One of my colluegues Gene Thornton (aka malice of the clipse pka no malice author of wretched pitiful poor blind and naked) wrote a book.  He helped me through the process of putting  our mutual friend latony Crumble’s book (just wasn’t my time) out.  These two guys inspired me to pull the love for writing out of the depths of my heart.

4. When did you first consider yourself a writer?

I guess I still don’t consider myself a writer.  It is weird. I have a book published and it’s doing well but it is not a New York Times best seller.  I guess once one of my books reaches that status then I’ll consider myself a writer.  I feel I have to put in more work to become a “writer”.

5. What  inspired you to One Of Us: A Story Of Gods Favor?

God.  I sat down to try to be like someone else.  I was writing about a mythical place.  After a few sentences I stopped.  Then I wanted to address this 2012 prophecy. As I began writing GOD took over and I wrote essentially a chapter a day after prayer and breakfast.

6. Do  you have a specific writing style?

I don’t have a particular writing style. I actually am writing across genres.

7. How did you come up with the title?

I have always thought about the song what if god was one of us. Then I thought,What if he was? What if he was here on earth and he could guide us and give us specific instruction.  Then I came up with the story. However, that was my thought process behind the name.

8. Is  there a message in Gods Favor that you want  readers to grasp?

Yes there is a message. Go buy it and read it then e-mail me what you think it is. And I will tell you if you are right or not.  Ha ha. It has to deal with obedience.

9. How much of the book is realistic?

I would say about 90% of the book is realistic in regards to the scenario of people not obeying God. However, the story is made up and of course no man has seen GOD.

10. Are experiences based  on someone you know, or events in your own life?

Tide book is loosely based on my experiences. It is similar in some ways to what I experienced in 2011.

11. What books have most  influenced your life most?

Wretched, Pitiful, Poor, Blind, and Naked by Gene Thornton. And Just Wasn’t My Time by Latony Crumble

12. If you had to choose, which writer would you  consider a mentor?
Of course Maya Angelou. She is inspiring and she has a direct link to Oprah. Ha ha.

                      13. What book are you reading now?

You know I have purchased a few books from authors on Facebook. I haven’t had the chance to sit down and read but I promise I will.  I am in Grad school so technically I’ve been reading exceptional children by Heward. Ha ha

14. Are there any new  authors that have grasped your interest?

Not really. I haven’t had the chance to read the new authors books yet.

15. What are your current  projects?

My Current project is called “why we do what we do: answers to FAQ’s by women about men. The title is self explanatory.

17. Do you see writing as a career?

I do.  I think as long as I never quit it will happen for me one day.

18. If you had to do it all over  again, would you change anything in your latest book?

No. Like I said GOD took over and it was him that helped me.

19. Do you recall how your  interest in writing originated?

It was always deep inside me. I remember my second grade teachers being really impressed with a story I wrote and they asked me if I wanted to be a writer because I wrote so well.  I said no. I hate writing and I also hate reading. I still am not a huge fan of reading. However, I do read from time to time.

21. Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your  writing?
Remembering all of the grammar rules.  English is the hardest most confusing language in the world.
22. Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you  about their work?
I don’t really have one.
23. Do you to travel  much promoting your book(s)?
I haven’t started traveling yet but the summer of 2012 will be a huge traveling summer. So it is coming.
24. Who designed the covers?
I did. I do many things.
25. What was the  hardest part of writing your book?
Finishing it up.  I wanted to keep going. However, god told me to end it.
26. Did you learn anything from writing your  book and what was it?
Just rembering that GOD is with me and he knows what’s best.  I have to trust him and obey him.
27. Do you have any advice for other writers?
Don’t say you’re going to do it! Do it!!! Do it now!  Keep writing. Remember if you like to sleep and take breaks and have a full time job.  Then you will probably not have time to promote your book.
28. Do you  have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you 1 million times thank you. For reading/purchasing I hope you love it and maybe you will reccomend it to your friends and family. And I hope that you get the new book.

Glynda J. Linton,
Author: Shoes on the Wrong Foot
“Commitment is what transforms a promise into reality. It is the words that speak boldly of your intentions and the actions that speak louder than words. It is making time when there is none. It is coming through time after time. Commitment is the stuff character is made of; the power to change the face of things. It is the daily triumph of integrity over skepticism”.

Publication Date: February 28, 2012
T.D. Jakes, New York Times bestselling author of Reposition Yourself, Making Great Decisions, and more than a dozen other titles, now presents this book on forgiveness, demonstrating once again why he is called “a spiritual genius,” a “master of meeting mankind eye to eye,” and one of America’s best preachers. He understands that he and fellow Christians share spiritual truths “that transcend time and culture and reflect a universal understanding of human nature.” The spiritual truth he explores in Let It Go concerns forgiveness and why it is important for those on the receiving end of wrongful behavior as well as those who commit acts of wrongdoing.

“Forgiveness is a big idea and it works best when it is invested into people who have the courage to grasp the seven-foot-high idea of what’s best for their future rather than the four-foot-high idea of recompense for what has happened in their past,” Jakes writes in Let It Go. This book explores forgiveness as an idea and at the same time offers specific and clear actions for readers who seek to apply the idea in their daily lives. Offenses are a part of life, he says. But conflicts can be resolved and relationships do have a future, if we learn how to forgive. No matter how great or small the injustice, Jakes shows how the matter can be put behind you for the sake of a better tomorrow if you can Let It Go.
